Drivers in the United States paid an average of $3.49 a gallon for gas in 2013. The state of Montana had the lowest average price for the year at $3.01 a gallon. Oklahoma had the second lowest average price for the year at $3.06 a gallon. Residents of Hawaii paid the highest average price for the year at $3.94. In the continental United States, Connecticut had the highest average price per gallon at $3.71, followed closely by New York at $3.70.
