Where do volunteers want to allocate their time abroad? This interactive map shows volunteer interest in different countries based upon search data provided by Go Overseas, a comprehensive volunteer program review site, in a 2012 Official Volunteer Abroad Report. The report used Google Keyword Tool and reports on global volunteering to compile its information. The rank of the countries, numbered from 1 to 48, show varying levels of interest in volunteer work of a given country.
The report postulates different reasons behind the high interest in volunteer work in different countries. It identifies disaster relief as a major motivator for volunteers and a determiner for where the volunteers choose to go. For example, Haiti's deadly 2010 earthquake sparked a great amount of interest in volunteering within the country.
