This chart shows Global Destination Cities Index - 2015.
Tourism is travel for pleasure; also the theory and practice of touring, the business of attracting, accommodating, and entertaining tourists, and the business of operating tours.Tourism may be international, or within the traveler's country. The World Tourism Organization defines tourism more generally, in terms which go "beyond the common perception of tourism as being limited to holiday activity only ", as people "traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes".
The economic and business impacts of international travel are especially pronounced in cities that are popular destinations of international travelers, and in these destination cities, spending by international visitors contributes significantly to local commerce and business activities.
While growth rates by visitor arrivals and expenditures are high overall, regardless of whether the destination cities are in the developed or emerging markets, many emerging market destination cities are showing both high visitor arrival and expenditure growth. This kind of growth pattern strongly suggests that destination cities in emerging markets in Asia will continue to grow in importance in the new global economy.
