This map shows worldwide surface water and ground water withdrawal as percentage of total renewable water resources. Water withdrawal is the quantity of water removed from available sources for human use (in the agricultural, domestic and industrial sectors), expressed as a percentage of the total volume of water available annually through the hydrological cycle (total actual renewable water resources). The terms water resources and water withdrawal are understood as freshwater resources and freshwater withdrawal.
This parameter is an indication of the pressure on the renewable water resources.
