This map classifies all World Bank member economies and all other economies with populations of more than 30,000 for operational and analytical purposes. Economies are divided among income groups according to 2010 gross national income (GNI) per capita, calculated using the World Bank Atlas method.
Number of Countries in each group:
- Low income - 35 Countries
- Lower middle income - 56 Countries
- Upper middle income - 54 Countries
- High income: nonOECD - 39 Countries
- High income: OECD - 31
Developing countries have increased their share of the global economy by growing faster than rich countries, on average 6.8 percent per year compared to only 1.8 percent for high income economies over the 2000 to 2010 period. But the difference between rich and poor countries remains large. The average income of all high-income economies was 38,658 in 2010, while that of middle-income economies was $3,764 and of low-income economies was $510.
